Spread the Word Saturday

1. Consumption - What did you consume today?

Water – brushed teeth, 10 minute shower, flushed 3 times, washed hands 9 times

Food – hotpocket, donut, snack wrap, pinkberry froyo, chinese take-out

Electricity – lights, computer, cash register, froyo machines, microwave (for my hotpocket)

Gasoline – MBTA 2 buses and 2 trains

$$Money$$ - 40 something

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I walked from Ruggles to school instead of waiting for the bus (although it was really COLD -__- )

3. Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term? Can you reduce your consumption permanently? Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

well since today ways spread the word saturday I convinced my grandmother to unplug the applinces from the kitchen that she wasnt using (microwave, toaster, blender, radio, etc). Also since we dont have legit ceiing lights in any of the rooms, we unplugged them until the sun went down. Although I know today was a rough day as far as the amount of resources I used, I know I can permanently reduce my wasting- not being home or in school all day played a role in my spending because I had to use money for the bus (as opposed to my student pass) and buy my meals at fast food places, which is much more expensive overall. This porject/challenge definitely helped me save a lot more (which I have been trying to do for a while now) and it showed me that I really dont need half the thins I want of usually have- I was just accustomed to my bad habbits (i.e leaving the water on when I brushed my teeth, starting the water in my shower while I was brushing my teeth, leaving my lights on when I left my room, leaving appliances which werent being used plugged in, etc.)

4. Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers? Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way? Will you adjust your own actions because of this?

I think we’ve done a great job in regards to keeping up with the challenge and trying to make these changes part of our daily lives. I think we will be able to reach a lot of people if we actually spread the word and make this project something big. I’ve learned of a lot more ways to limit the amount of resources I use daily and now that I’m aware of them I’m willing to continue trying to better the way I live and limit the amount of resources I use.

Water - 3 bottles of water, 8 min shower, flushed toilet, washed hands

Food - bagel, school lunch, 2 pastelitos (spanish beef patties)

Gasoline - MBTA (3 buses), church van (10 min ride)

Electricity - watched a little tv, laptop (right now)

$$Money$$ - nothing

2. Reduction - I’ve been neglecting my laptop and trying to watch less television while doing homeowrk (well technically listening to the tv)

3. Sustainability - Keeping the lights off the night time and not wasting money all week (until I buy my Hyponotist tickect tomorrow) p.s you should ALL go!! (:

 4. I like how people are beginning to get used to this ‘life style’ slowly- it’s becoming a habit to reduce the use of things without noticing.

Waterless Wednesday ( yeah yeah I know it’s Thursday)

Day 4: Waterless Wednesday

1. Consumption

Water: 1 bottle of Poland Spring, flushed the toilet, washed my hands 4 times

Food: A bagel, pinkberry froyo, rice & beans

Electricity: laptop, cash register at work

Gasoline: MBTA (4 buses and a train)

2. Reduction

Since I wasn’t home all day I didn’t use much electricity or cash. I’ve been trying to take shorter showers and turn off the water when I’m not using it.

3. Sustainability

I’ll be rolling in dough in no time lol just kidding, but since I haven’t spent any money all week I’m actually saving therefore I’m not wasting it on junk food or bottled water (!)

4. What did I learn?

I need to take shorter showers -___- I waste so much water unintentionally.

Try Harder Tuesday

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Please make a list for your usage of the following substances

Water – I drank 1 bottle of water

10 minute shower

Brushed my teeth

washed my hands,

flushed the toilet

Food –a couple of fries, bagel, oreos, soup

Electricity –  laptop for homework, school computers during study, tv for a couple of hours

Gasoline – bus to school

$$Money$$ - nada

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I  didnt use my ipod today (purposely left it at home) to cut back on the amount of electricity I use.

3.  Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term?  Can you reduce your consumption permanently?  Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

I brought food from home again today and am considering cutting down on my water usage after the activity we did in class today (yikes).

4.  Following - What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers?  Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way?  Will you adjust your own actions because of this?

I’ve a lot of people aren’t using social media at all and only using the computer for homework- which is what I’ve been trying to do to cut back mainly on electricity usage reduction.

Day Two: Money Monday

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Water: 15 minute shower

brushed teeth

I drank 1 bottle of water

flushing the toilet

washing my hands

Food: bagel, cookie pie thing, a bag of chips, pinkberry froyo & rice, platanos (plantains), and chicken

Electricity: my ipod, computer for homework (30 min), tv (one hour), lights in my room

Gasoline (fossil fuels): the ride to school and work (3 hours total)

$$Money$$ - nada (Pinkberry was free cause I work there, just in case)

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I didnt purchase anything today and tried not to spend any extra time using technology (again) until it was completely necessary.

3.  Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term?  Can you reduce your consumption permanently?  Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

I could bring my food from home more often instead of buying lunch and spending money daily. Obviously there are some things I have to spend money on like the products to make my food but I can reduce the amount of money I spend on junk.

4.  What did you learn from following the tumblr feed of your peers?  Did one person’s actions resonate with you in a positive way?  Will you adjust your own actions as a result of their post?

I noticed a couple of people mentioned walking a certain distance instead of taking the bus or train- although I live too far from school and can’t walk to school but I can walk to work from school. I think it’ll make a big difference even if I walk  a short distance each day instead of catching the bus the two stops between Ruggles and Backbay or Longwood and Prudential.

Day One: Social Networking Sunday

1.  Consumption - What did you consume today?

Please make a list for your usage of the following substances

Water: 10 minute shower, a few toilet flushes, washed my hands, brushed teeth

Food: Chicken Alfredo (pasta, chicken, brocolli), rice and chicken

Electricity: facebook for 15 minutes, watched 2 episodes on tv (1 hour)

Gasoline (fossil fuels): I didnt drive anywhere but I did take two buses and two trains (to work in total to go & come back)

$$Money$$ - What did you spend money on today? food

2. Reduction - In what areas of your current lifestyle did you try to scale back the use of specific resources?

I tried to go through the whole day without using the internet. I went on facebook at 10 then remember about this so here I am. (: I tried reducing the amount of electricity I use everyday by cutting back and shutting off my lights when I left my room.

List the areas of your daily routine that you made an effort to limit your usage of certain substances.

electricity & technology

3.  Sustainability - Are there any changes that you made to your daily routine that you could envision making for the long term?  Can you reduce your consumption permanently?  Why or why not? Please be specific, and provide examples.

I can reduce the amount of time I spend using technology and reducing the amount of electricity I use daily. Well I dont believe I can entirely cut off technology since I dont have a cell phone and its my only form of communication with the outside world :p but I can definitely consider reducing my usage on a permanent basis- like turning off the lights and shutting off the water when Im brushing my teeth.
